My Summer Highlights 2018

Today is the last day of Summer and I am content on how it went for me. This Summer was an unusual Summer for me due to three reasons.

1.My Baptism Anniversary

Last year I gave my life to Jesus Christ and shortly after I was baptized. I have lived a full year walking with Christ. This thought alone amazes me. While I reflect, I cant help myself from smiling. It’s been more than 365 days since I said yes to my lord and savior and my life has never been the same. Such a blissful journey, filled with miracle signs and wonders.

Girlll, It was as if God waiting for me at the door! As soon as I said yes, he began to do immediate changes in and through my life. Cleaning things out of my heart, mind and spirit. Easy is not a word that I would use, but I would say that this walk has been meaningful. I learned not to underestimate God on what he can do in a day, let alone one whole year!

I am humbly at peace and in awe with the love of God. Because of my life transformation, I stepped into this Summer with a new mind set prepared to overcome any challenge that came my way. And that I did! Glory to God!

2. Summer Teaching

At first this idea made me nervous because I am a fairly new teacher and I never taught during the summer. I had to remind myself that God has plans to prosper me and not to harm me, plans to give me hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

In fact, at the end of it all I realized that I learned things I did not know about being a teacher and I also learned a lot about my students. My students and I shared unforgettable moments that I will forever cherish, throughout my teaching career.  I admit that at times I felt like I was on a roller coaster BUT it was an experience that I had to go through in order to learn things that will help me improve as a teacher and overall a person.

3. Traveling

I love to travel. I find pure joy in planning for a trip, sitting inside of a plane, checking in to a hotel and being a tourist. I love it all! This Summer I visited Washington D.C, Hawaii and Texas. I have been to Washington a few times in the past, I enjoy my visit all the time. I love visiting the African American Museum, it is filled with so much history and their gift shop is the bomb.com! Hawaii was breathtaking, I savored every bit of my stay. I recommend everyone to go visit. And Texas is my second home because my siblings reside there. Every time I visit I give and receive so much love. This was a highlight for me because I have not visited Texas since college and I missed my family so much, it was great to see them.

This was the first Summer of my life that I have moved so much in in such little time, collecting the beautiful memories. This is a Summer to remember.

My favorite sushi restaurant

Did someone say sushi? I love sushi. My love for sushi was developed during my college years. I remember thinking that my friend was out of her mind when she had sushi for lunch at work. The idea of eating something that is not cooked, freaked me out. Until.. I tried a California roll and fell in love. After adapting to the cali roll taste, I then moved unto trying other rolls such as shrimp tempura, avocado rolls and even an unagi roll.

So when I was in college there was an Asian restaurant close to my campus; where I visited regularly for sushi. Things changed once I moved back home from school and went into a sushi hunt. It was important for me to find a place that was just as good as the last place that I was accustomed to.

I found that place!!!! Ceetay is a sushi restaurant that is located in the South Bronx, within the Mott Haven area. It is right in my borough, the food is amazing, service is great and they offer delivery services. Greatness on top of greatness!

Please be sure to check out their website for a full view of their menu and more information.

Are you a sushi lover? If so, what is your favorite type of sushi? Please share! I will like to hear more from you guys.

The menu consists of delicious goods such as pastries, salads and sandwiches from the one and only Arthur Ave Deli. If you have not tried their sandwiches yet, you must try it! They’re sooooo good. And instead of going all the way to Arthur Ave, you can visit the XM Cafe to grab a bite. Click here to take a look at the full menu.

Besides the food, this is a great resource that is in our community for us to use.

Dining Experience; 6 Course meal

tc2

Two words to describe him; meek and skillful. If you don’t know by now, his name is  Jose Dejesus and he goes by Trill Cooker. Jose grew up in The Bronx and collected his experience as a chef in Manhattan. With a remarkable career as a chef and pure determination, Jose stands as a proficient chef in New York City.

Besides a chef, Jose is also a successful entrepreneur. He founded “Breaking Bread”, where he hosts pop up dinners in different parts of The Bronx. What makes this interesting, is that the dinner is a secret; so you will not know what’s for dinner until you arrive to the designated location.  If you have a specific diet and/or food restrictions, before purchasing your ticket you are asked about those restrictions. At the time when I attended one of his pop up dinners, I was strictly pescatarian and I was well taken care of. So no worries! Please note that everything was freshly made and prepared at the counter.

Anyways, here are some photos that highlights my experience at the pop up dinner.

Waffles for the Weekend

Waffle

Because, Waffles and weekends are great friends!

I had the pleasure to visit NY Bagel Cafe & Deli for on a Sunday morning for breakfast. Though I wanted to try everything on the menu, initially I went with a waffle and kept it simple; which was pretty good. Besides this waffle, their breakfast menu contains of other options such as chicken & waffle, pancakes and hearty breakfast platters.

Over all I had a great experience as a first time customer and I will be back!  Great service, comfy place and yummy food options on the menu. I give it a thumbs up!
